The project aims at the restoration and reuse of the former general fruit and vegetable market of Genoa in Corso Sardegna, covering an area of 23,000 square meters.

The market was built in 1926 based on a unitary project featuring a seamless rectangular layout, with perimeter structures serving as warehouses and roofed porticoes designed for the daily display of saleable goods. Some of the structures on the premises of the former market are subject to historical monumental constraints.

The project entails the maintenance of part of the buildings of the structure, specifically the perimetral constructions and those subject to historical restrictions. The four buildings enclosed in the perimeter have previously been demolished to provide space for the construction of a public park.

The functions located in the former marketplace are: offices, public establishments, stores (7.000 sqm), park (8.500 sqm), community center (400 sqm), parking lots (5.600 sqm)

The requalification of the historic buildings is aimed at maintaining the former image of the marketplace by preserving the material integrity of its original surfaces. The complex will be restored in order to obtain improved structural and energetic efficiency.

The design of the new park is intended to favor a range of different functions and users, as well as offering the comfort of its spaces and facilities.

Part of the public space is covered by glass roofing to enable pedestrian usage also during the colder season.
